What have you learned from your audience feedback?

As we established during our research stages, our target audience would be aged between 15-18 we thought that the best way to receive feedback from non-media students would be via technology. Therefore in order to receive feedback from non-media students we created a facebook group and added friends that did not have expertise in using media terminology. We posted at various times in order to gather a range of information not just about our trailer but also to gather feedback for our ancillary tasks. For the trailer and poster we asked people to comment on the post and for the website created a survey via survey monkey which I then posted in the group and asked people to complete. We received feedback for our rough cut of the trailer from both media classes and I also sent out messages with the link to our rough cut to non-media students on whatsapp and asked for their constructive feedback. Below is the feedback we recieved from the majority of people we asked both media and non-media students.

To the right is a powtoon which shows some statistics from our feedback recieved for our rough cut.

There was some feedback received from some people which contradicted the responses from others, an example of this was the lighting which by some was seen to be too dark or too light and needed altering however others thought that the dark lighting was a good as it made the trailer feel more ominous. Therefore after watching the trailer again ourselves we took this into consideration and decided to alter some clips which we thought were too dark or too light. Apart from this the majority of feedback we gathered we were aware of and knew that these points would be picked up on. It was helpful however for others to also make these suggestions as it confirmed that these were priorities that needed to be added/altered. Other feedback that we recieved also consisted of things that we did not notice at first and therefore this was also helpful in ensuring that we included the conventions for horror trailers. After our alterations we posted the final cut on the facebook group and received feedback from this which was 100% positive and one respondent said ‘really good, I love the suspense that is built up at the end’.

For the poster we also received feedback on our facebook group where the majority of people said that the poster looked sinister, one respondent thought that ‘the text used in the title is really good and reflected the horror genre well. Also, the actual picture itself is well taken and introduces the audience to the plot'. We also got some very useful feedback on how we could improve the poster in order for it to fit the conventions of posters in general and horror posters. One peice of feedback suggested that we used the font 'Steel Tongs' for the credits at the bottom of the poster as this is what is usually used. The feedback received for the poster was extremely helpful in ensuring that it linked to the trailer which many people commented on and thought that 'it gives you an idea of what might happen in the film'.

We created a survey using survey monkey to collect people's responses to the website, questions consisted of how easy it was to navigate, whether they thought it looked professional and also if they thought that it conveyed the horror genre. We also asked features that they liked as well as disliked about the website so that we could make neccessary improvements. This is some of the feedback which we gathered:

From all the feedback we gathered this helped us to improve and alter all three of our products so that they appealed to our target audience as well as included all the necessary conventions needed when creating a horror film promotion package
