Film poster analysis-1- Rebecca

Having hands that are clearly not those of a human hints at what is causing the protagonist distress. By only showing the hands it still has the element of mystery which also makes the audience go and watch the film in order to overcome this enigma that is created. The hands are also physical depictions of the title as they are physically dragging her down.
The fire have obvious depiction of danger and death as well as of hell and people burning in hell. The idea of the fire at the bottom again emphasises the title and the idea that hell is beneath the ground therefore she is being dragged down to her fate. by it looking uncontrolable and as though it is growing it suggest that the protagonist is being consumed by the fire and the desruction it causes.
The word 'drag' shows a reluctance to accepting that she is going to hell. It is as though she will resist which is shown in the image as she is scream and the hands show how she has to be taken physically because of her reluctance.
The house in the background highlights the conventional normality vs abnormality seen in horror films. It shows the normal life and it is in the backgound therefore emphasises that her normal life is behind her and she won't have that again.
This small section of text also shows her normal lifestyle contrasted with her abnormal fate. it also creates enigmas for the audience as they will wonder why she is going to hell, what is going to happen in three days. All enigmas which will be answered when they go to see the film.
The black background conveys the girls fate which will ultimately be her death. it also reinforces the mystery of what happens to her and why. The black smoke covering the house affects the normaility connected to having the house in the background.
The expression of fear on the protagonists face is in keeping with conventions of horror film posters as it conveys a sense of distress that she is in. This shows that the normaility of her life has been disturbed in some way and therefore it will make the audience go and see the film to see what is causing this womans torment
