This question tells us that the tension built in a horror as well as jump scares are two of the main things that grabs the audience's attention. In order to get the audience to go and see the film you have to ensure that there is tension being created from the beginning so that when the jump scare occurs they will be scared and constantly on the edge of their seats.

Editing is shown to be an important factor in a horror trailer in order for it to be effective as well as camera shots/movement and sound. These features are needed in order to grab the audiences attention.
